Vehicle Winter Check

Of all the seasons, winter requires the most care and preparation to ensure you and your family stay safe on the roads. Breakdowns are more common and potentially more dangerous during the winter months than at any other time of the year. So it is particularly important to be prepared for the cold spells and difficult road conditions that can arise, especially when snow and ice are about.

What's covered in a Vehicle Winter Check?

To keep you moving we will check your vehicle's:

  • Tyres - We will check the overall condition of your tyres including the tread depth and pressure
  • Battery - We will test the batteries charge to ensure you keep moving this winter
  • Coolant / Anti-freeze - We will check the strength and levels

With the short days and bad weather, visibility of the road is vital so we will also check your vehicle’s:

  • Wiper blades for splits or damage
  • Operation of the windscreen wash system and the level of screen wash and top this up if necessary
  • Light bulbs – faulty or broken bulbs are illegal

Once your check has been completed our trained technicians will discuss the report with you and provide help and guidance if any elements do not meet the safety requirements.

Common Questions

Vehicle Winter Check FAQ

What does a vehicle winter check include?
We check the battery, antifreeze levels, tyre tread and pressure, wipers, lights, brakes, and all fluid levels. It's a thorough check of the key systems that are most likely to cause problems in cold weather.
When should I book a winter check?
Ideally before the cold weather sets in, so late autumn is a good time. That way any issues can be addressed before you need to rely on your car in difficult conditions.
Is a winter check the same as a service?
No. A service follows a manufacturer's schedule and includes more in-depth work such as oil and filter changes. A winter check is a safety-focused inspection designed to make sure your car is ready for the colder months. We'll flag anything that needs attention.
Do you check the antifreeze concentration?
Yes. We test the antifreeze to make sure it's at the correct concentration for the expected temperatures in the UK. Diluted or old antifreeze can freeze in the cooling system and cause serious damage to the engine.
